THE ARDECHE AND THE VALLEY OF THE LEZE

La Plage des Templiers

La Plage des Templiers owes its name to a lazar house (a hospital in the Middle Ages), vestiges of which remain, perched on a stony outcrop. The "Balcon des Templiers" is one of the jewels of this spectacular valley of the Ardèche-- the Gorges of which are known the world over.

Adjoining a tight bend of the river, the imposing beauty of the cirque walls is breathtaking. This is also the land of caverns and caves, including the Aven d'Orgnac with its incredible stalagmites bathed in an unreal blue light. The 3.5 hectare Plage des Templiers will delight canoeists who will find 100 camping allotments, 26 fully-equipped 4-persons capacity tents with central sanitary facilities, a restaurant and a grocery store. - Saint-Remèze
